History

NoVA TSD, formerly known as Rising Star TSD was founded by S. Stewart Soon in 1999. As an E Dan (2nd degree black belt) in the World Tang Soo Do Association, he and his family decided to open a school with a family environment. Built on the foundation of Tang Soo Do, a traditional Korean martial art, Rising Star would be dedicated to improving the lives of their students by emphasizing the Art and not the sport of martial arts. After a few false starts, perseverance paid off and the fledgling school was offered a permanent home at the David R. Pinn Center. After becoming large enough, the school moved to Old Town Fairfax, where it is located today.

Rising Star Tang Soo Do opened its doors in January 2000. Today, Master Soon's experienced staff still runs NoVA TSD II with the family spirit, offering low rates and scholarships to full-time college students and lower income families.
